This year I decided to start my natural hair journey. I have been tired of wigs and weaves for a while now and I have wanted to try something new, so I finally took the risk. I went over to my sis Imani’s house and she helped me curl my hair with perm rods, two strand twists and flexi rods. She even came over the next morning bright and early just to make sure I was looking right. I am so appreciative of her!
It has been two weeks and I am finally starting to get the hang of doing my own hair. Although I am lazy and doing all the steps is exhausting AF, I love the results I am starting to get. I still need to get my ends cut so the permed strands are gone, but I have been so busy I haven’t had time. Once I get those straight pieces cut out I know my hair will grow even faster so I need to get this accomplished ASAP.
Growing up I never took care of my hair. I would go to the shop or have someone do it for me but I never knew how to do anything to my hair myself. The decisions I have made regarding my hair thus far have been extremely detrimental. I have gotten multiple perms, I have flat ironed my hair thin multiple times and I have kept in weaves for long periods of time without washing it or moisturizing it. Now that I am 25, I am ready to stop being lazy and put in the work to have healthy, moisturized hair. I just think of how long and healthy my hair would be if I would of made the decision to take care of my hair a long time ago, but it is what it is. All that matters is I have taken the first steps to growth and I am super excited! I have gotten so many compliments and I feel like this was the perfect time to make this change. I honestly feel like real confidence comes with accepting how you were created not needing fake hair and nails to love yourself. I applaud the people that can switch it up, but don’t aren’t dependent on those artificial enhancements. I am trying to become one of those people slowly, but surely.
I really love how fresh curls look. I wish I had the patience to do my hair every single night, but that’s not going to happen now that I have moved out and I have to cook for myself and be a little more self sufficient. I am trying to create a routine for myself and dedicate certain days for certain tasks; ie. cooking days, laundry day, wash days… cleaning days LOL. I haven’t quit figured it out yet, but I will soon 🙂 I hope everyone has a great and productive week.
