In continuing my search for local WOC (Women of Color) owned businesses, I came upon  Peace and Riot. Located in Bed Stuy, I decided to make my way over and check them out. Peace and Riot melts perfectly into the scenery of parks, trees, small shops and brownstones in Bed Stuy. Peace and Riot is owned and operated by Achuziam Maha-Sanchez and husband Lionel Sanchez. “Coming from African and Caribbean heritages, there’s a feeling of being transported as you enter this Bed-Stuy boutique.” I couldn’t agree more.

Some of my favorite things about Peace and Riot was variety of goods sold in the store. I really appreciate when stores bring in a variety of different businesses to hold space in their store. It makes it that special for me knowing there is a community behind a store, and the pieces in it were selected. I roamed the store for about forty five minutes, with lots to look at. They have a wide range of home goods like blankets and tapestries, children’s items, clothing, jewelry, stationary, books, and candles galore! The prices range from $-$$$ so there’s definitely something for everyone at any price range. Bags are hand stamped in house, which is something I got to watch happen as I made my way around the shop. I know I’ll continue to make my way toward Peace and Riot when I’m looking to do some meaningful gift shopping for myself and others!

If y’all are interested in visiting Peace and Riot, they will be opening their doors on January 15, 2019, as they are currently closed for restocking and design projects. In the meantime, you can check them out at peaceandriot.com.

Don’t forget to support local owned business! Show them love even when on vacation.
