If you read my last post you know that my focus has shifted to moving out of my parent’s home. As a result, I have been on Craigslist and Indeed non stop applying for jobs. With that being said, I got a new job! I literally applied to this job on Sunday and they emailed me back 15 minutes later asking if I could come in Monday for an interview. I quickly responded, had my interview Monday and VOILA! I am now employed full time once again.
I went in for my interview Monday and it went really well! I was confident, I had my answers prepared and I took notes the entire time I was being interviewed. After the interview ended the manager of the company said they had one more person left to interview. She instructed me to go home and think about my interest in the job and to send her an email later on. About an hour later I emailed her and told her I was highly interested in the position, I loved everyone I met there and that I think I will fit right in and be a good asset to the company. Thirty minutes later she emailed me saying they thought I was a good fit as well and she asked me if I could start the next day.
Although this job is nothing special, I am happy to once again have a second source of income. I work as an administrative assistant like I did before, but this time I work at a property management company. This is better for me than my last job, because I start at 9 instead of 7:30AM (I am NOT a morning person) and they are more up to date as far as technology, so a lot of tasks are easier.
Honestly, I feel blessed and highly favored. Looking for a new job can be extremely stressful and it literally only took me two weeks. When I put my mind to it I know that there will be results. For three days I literally did nothing but apply for jobs. When you are looking for a new job that is how it has to be. I applied for like 35 jobs and only got two phone calls… it’s frustrating, but you can not get discouraged. I’d also like to point out that I got this job as well as my last one via Craigslist. As much as people say Craigslist is sketch, there really are some legit opportunities on there. I also found my apartment I had in San Jose on there as well! People having a hard time searching for employment or housing don’t sleep on Craigslist.
I can’t say I’m happy about this new job, because it isn’t a radio or writing position, but I am grateful. I am grateful that I can now save money and get closer to my goal of moving out.
A few other exciting things happened. Last week my girl hit me up and asked me if she can feature me on an episode of her new podcast. The episode I will be featured on will be geared towards people who are interested in hustle, entrepreneurship and personal branding. She wants me to discuss different paths someone can take in order to get a career in the entertainment industry and elaborate on my timeline of events as well as stepping stones I had to get to where I am today. I am so honored that she contacted me with this opportunity. I’m excited and I hope I can provide some good insight.
Also, today my Soror hit me up asking if I’d be interested in coming to her school, because she is looking for successful individuals to speak to the kids throughout the school year and I came to mind. When she reached out to me it made me so happy. The fact that I really came to mind when she thought of “successful individuals” literally has me in awe.
As much as I stress about the future people see me… thank you to those who see me. You guys are my light at the end of the tunnel and the force that keeps me going. Sometimes I have negative thoughts and I feel like I will never have my dream job, but then I have to check myself and look at how far I have come.
Besides moving out my other goal is to interview a total of 25 people before the year is over. It is important to me to highlight young people who are making moves and doing positive things for their communities. Last night I interviewed Darilyn Williams and she inspired me! She is a Plus Size Vegan Blogger/ Advocate and she is so knowledgeable of the topic that she impressed me and motivated me. Her interview is only the third interview I’ve done, but I believe that I can meet my goal by the end of 2017. I am dedicated to finding talented and pace setting individuals so stay tuned for my exclusive interviews found only on my website, CSUITEMUSIC.com.
